PC02341

Free Talk (Via Zoom) from Alan Stennett, Historian and Author.
Joining time from 6.45pm with start time of 7.30pm and finishing 8.15pm approx.

Railways reached our part of Lincolnshire in 1848, when the Great Northern Railway opened its Lincolnshire Loop Line from Peterborough to Lincoln. A station at Kirkstead served that community and the old ferry that crossed the Witham there. Seven years later the “Horncastle and Kirkstead Junction Railway Company” promoted a line from Horncastle to the loop line at Kirkstead with a small station at the growing community of Woodhall Spa.

In his talk Alan will discuss the history of the line, its passengers and goods services and its effects on the local communities from its opening to final closure 50 years ago.
